Come listen and participate in one of many scheduled running clinics designed for Members of A Snail's Pace Running Academy and Running Club.
We will be hearing a great talk given by Dr.Thomas Bakman of Forma.
We will hearing about "Functional Movement Prep for Runners". What does this mean to you as a runner? Well for years, I am sure you have been taught to perform static stretches, such as toe touches, before running or participating in any physical activity. Just as in all other aspects in our lives, we have learned better ways to prepare ourselves for running. Not only better, but safer. If you can imagine, we as runner typically run first thing in the morning when it is cold or at night after sitting at our desks all day. So as we prepare to run, our muscles are cold or tight and have very minimal blood flow going to them. Trying to preform a static stretch at this point could easily create a muscle pull or even a tear.
What we want to do is create a influx of blood to flow to the muscles we will be using to run. This is where Functional Movement Prep comes in. The movements that Dr.Bakman will show us will not only warm up the body, but it will get blood flowing to your running muscles and actually increase hip and glute stability.
You will not want to miss this discussion. Come ready to learn and bring your questions.
Join one of our three group after the clinic for a three to six mile run.
